unflattering comparisons

Those unflattering comparisons I referred to earlier are in the process of getting even more unflattering. It appears that Blogger is now under new ownership. Apparently, the kind folks at Google are responsible for the recent suckiness I've observed. That might go a decent ways towards explaining the Gmail brouhaha.

The latest result of this travesty is the comments, which Maire has noted.

Goddamnit, I forgot to get coffee...

my absence

Oh yeah, that thing. Besides disappearing here, I also managed to disappear in real life. I did surface in time for my E&M final, which appears to have been the only thing I did right between 10th and finals weeks.

I documented the flat before we did anything drastic to it. More fun still to come on that front.

I have more energy these days, and I'm getting a better handle on some things I'd like to work on.

book reviews

I'm in the OC for a week. I'm sitting at home. My younger brother and step mother decide to make a run to Borders and Blockbuster. I tag along.

(Borders?? Yes, I'm aware that I live within walking distance of one of the better book-shopping districts in the country, and I've also aware that Borders has just invaded Hyde Park. Did I mention I was bored? I should also point out in my defense that there is a legitimate reason to shop at Borders, occasionally.)

I happen across something rather interesting: "The Radioactive Boy Scout," by Ken Silverstein, published 2004.

Of course I bought it. This is a story Sam and I have been trying to put together for about six months. What happened was that there was an item (#240) on the 1999 Scavhunt list. It called for a breeder reactor, which two physics majors built. The incident has turned into a bit of a campus legend. The item refers to an indident in Michigan in which a boy scout built a breeder reactor in a toolshed in his backyard. Silverstein published a story about it in 1998 in Harper's Magazine. It appears that he has since expanded the article into a book.

The point of all this, of course, is that the title of this post is intentially misleading. There is no review to be found here.

Moved In

Mostly. All of our stuff is physically in the apartment, but there are still ungodly amounts of boxes to go through and organize.

Teaching Physics

I'm too tired right now to actually say anything about it, but let me footnote this post for later.

And when I have that energy, I will then:

That is all.
